Logan Martin Lake
Fishing 1/16oz open hook on JuneBug/Chartreuse Tail Slider Grub.
Most areas fished were not places to get snagged hung up. Mid march and Crappie had moved into the shallows. Lures were cast around piers, boat docks, shallow pockets, and areas with just one or two stick ups. This lake has tapered banks with gravel which is excellent for spawning crappie.
The technique was just to cast out the lure let it fall a second or two and then reel it back slowly but not extremely slow. The lure looked like a minnow swimming and had a slight tail movement, not over playing nature. Sometime the lure would be stopped in deep water and let fall a couple of feet. This falling action helps trigger bites.

Fast Trolling at Big Sandy on Kentucky Lake. Using the JuneBug/Chartreuse Tail Slider Crappie grub and catching crappie, white bass, bass, blue gill, and even a cat fish. The trolling motor was running about 1 mile per hour. Two lures per line used. A 1/16oz head on bottom of line and a 1/32oz on the top grub it was about 15 " above the bottom lure. Water temp was about 69 degrees and water depth was 20' to 6'. This is mid May fishing. Good action and lots of fish. Decent size crappie no slaps.

Logan Martin Lake
4 pound line, 1/16oz open hook, JuneBug/Chartreuse Tail Slider Grub
Casting out and reeling back at a steady pace. Always ready to set the hook quickly when getting a crappie bite. Sometime set the hook occasionally even when I cannot feel the crappie. The pick up is so light at times that this random set has hooked many crappie.

Wilson Lake, North Alabama On Tennessee River
First week of April
Fishing 8 to 20 foot deep close to bottom in Shoal Creek and on main lake just inside sloughs. All good size crappie caught using 4 and 6 lb line 1/16oz and 1/8oz heads open hook and Slider Crappie Grub.
Some crappie were caught on a drop-shot rig with 1/4oz bell sinker on bottom of line and a rappie Slider grub on a small hook about 12" from the sinker. This way we were close to bottom were crappie were holding but enough off the bottom so as not to hang up.

Garry Mason Stake Bed
Big Sandy, Kentucky Lake Winter Fishing using cork and Slider Grub over the top of stake beds. The crappie would come out of deeper water later in the afternoon if the sun was shinning. This warmed the water enough to cause them to move up. We dangled the Charlie Brewer Slider Grub using a cork over the beds. Colors used were JuneBug/Chartreuse Tail, Pink/Pearl Tail, and Chartreuse Multi Glitter.

Larry White & Charlie Brewer Jr.
Logan Martin Lake on the Coosa River in Alabama early March. Casting for Crappie around boat docks, and piers. Using 4 and 6 pound lines, 1/160z head and small #4 hook, rigged with an open hook. Charlie using the 1/16oz double-Lite head/hook on a slider grub. This hook is super thin and needle sharp. It is strong enough for a crappie but will straighten out most times when hung up. Then I can just bend it back with my fingers and keep fishing.

Larry casting to a favorite pier. Many piers have brush out in front of them that hold crappie. Fishing in 8 to 10 foot of water here. Casting out and letting fall a couple of feet then reel back at a steady pace and with rythm. Always keep a tight line and watch the line closely. Set the hook immediately when you feel or suspect a strike/bite. The bigger crappie are still hanging out and have not moved to the banks yet for spawning. This is pre-spawn fishing on a cool and sometime rainy day. Junebug/Chartreuse Tail grub always a favorite and seems to work well on sunny and cloudy days.
